Title: And Always One More Time
Ship: Karkat<>Gamzee
Summary: Sifting through the lies can take longer than the romcoms tell you.
Notes: Unchosen submission for HSWC. Includes some disturbing content.

29 June 2013 03:07 amSo we have now reached the point where:
It's nearly the end of the month.
I've tried to get somewhere with this month's fairytale FROM FOUR DIFFERENT STARTING POINTS and still can't wrangle it into anything usable that is actually taking me anywhere or transformable into any actual plot.
I can't even see any way to cut it down to a couple of short moments like I had to resort to with The Ugly Duckling.
So basically, what this comes to is:
FUCK The Red Shoes. It is a terrible tale and it can go die in a fucking fire and I am not fucking writing it.
And I don't even have time to figure out another substitute one at this point, so fuck it. No fairytale this month, I'm gonna skip straight to planning The Nightingale for next month instead. I at least have a basic skeleton for that.

Title: When Lilacs Dream In The Ashes
Ships: Karkat<3Eridan, Karkat<>Gamzee, other pairings
Summary: When Karkat sneaks into Prince Eridan's party, he's sure he only means it to be a reckless prank. He doesn't expect to fall flushed.
Notes: Next part for the Fairytale Challenge. Swapping in Cinderella for Thumbelina (because I really, really hate Thumbelina, it's even less of a story than the Tin Soldier one), and the other part of the prompt was purple. (Changed the title, I like this one a bit better.)
Notes 2: If I believed in warnings, there would be one for some stuff here.
( There's blood within the shoe )

Ugh, this is the one I'm least happy with so far, but I like... bits of it. And I can't fix it in two hours, so here we go. Also, it may or may not go up on AO3 with this title, depending on how I feel about it over the next couple of days...
Title: Freaks Of A Feather
Ships: I'll come back and fill this in when it's not spoilery for a certain person. It's another attempt at ashenfic, though.
Summary: All three of them are alone, in their own ways.
Notes: Yeah, the Ugly Duckling turned out to be horrible to use, especially with the prompt being "pink". Really not enough stuff that I would want to use in fic is pink... If I'd still had enough time once I worked out what I was doing, I would have added more Fef-POV, but, well.
( Sooner or later, everyone finds their place )

18 April 2013 11:22 pmYeah, I don't think I'm gonna have my bingo line done. Nearly everything on the one and only line I can possibly do is either demanding drabbles (which aren't allowed) or big epic things that I wouldn't have time to get done even if I'd been able to start working on them early.
Not even sure I'm going to get my fairytale done this month, the Ugly Duckling is a terrible thing to do for Karkat because there just AREN'T any other "swans" around except the guy he doesn't want to be associated with in any way whatsoever, and it's too late to try and throw in one of the substitutes at this point... fuck.

9 April 2013 03:24 amOkay, AO3 reposting's done. And I feel really really sorry for people who regularly write Nepeta-logs...
I should gather up all the links and make a master ficpost at some point, but I can't guarantee that will always be up-to-date.
Also, The Ugly Duckling is a really frustrating source for fic plot. Just saying.
Also also, I'm pretty sure there's something wrong when I have three different fusions in my sponge for the same pair of verses... maybe I shouldn't be so much writing as running a plotbunny farm.

8 April 2013 02:01 am"Dear" Person Responsible For The Fact That The New System Unfixably Fucks Up My Pesterlog Coding On AO3,
PLEASE GO FUCK YOURSELF WITH A RUSTY RAKE.
All my loathing,
Someone already deathly sick of having to code zir logs twice for two different sites without having to do EVERY SINGLE FUCKING LINE
So yeah, that's why those two fics aren't up on AO3 yet.

7 April 2013 03:02 amTitle: Seeking By Moonlight
Ship: Karkat<>Gamzee
Summary: In a discarded reality, a clown once made a promise to a poet. But trapped in the Veil with a vicious subjugglator, his life rewritten and his team falling apart, can Karkat Vantas find his way along a path marked by dreams he can never remember?
Notes: Reposting one of my entries from the 2011 HSO. This is still probably my favourite piece out of everything I've written, even though some important details have been jossed since. (And it looks like Gamzee's text might be hard to read on this background. Dammit. I'll toss up a link to AO3 once it's up there, it won't have the same problem.)

Title: In The Greenwood Shade
Ships: Aradia<3Karkat
Summary: Karkat hates ghosts, cryptic arseholish sprites, and anything Equius Zahhak has ever touched, and he's not that fond of frogs either. But even when she drags him on the worst sidequest ever, he still can't manage to hate Aradia Megido.
Notes: Third fic for the fairytale challenge - March's prompts were The Frog Prince and black. ...I don't think this one should be any more upsetting than canon generally is? Though it may help to remember that Karkat has no idea what he's talking about when it comes to mental illness and related issues.

23 March 2013 04:04 amStuff I should have been doing tonight/this morning:
Getting down to some serious editing on the Frog Maid, since I've got a week and a bit to finish and a busy weekend coming up (with any luck) at the end of March. (And as usual, that's not what it will actually be called.)
Working on my bingo line.
Attempting to go to bed earlier.
Stuff I've actually spent most of it doing:
Going through my music.
Reading TvTropes (it's not even a Wiki Walk that's been taking up all my time with it tonight, the RvB WMG page is just really really long and I hate closing tabs without finishing the page I'm on in them).
Contemplating horrible disturbing Freelancerstuck AUs with Karkat as Alpha.
Seriously thinking about trying to write something based on how I thought Wash's and Carolina's backstories would go when we first heard about them. (Not sure in what context yet though - originally I was thinking about origfic, but it just occurred to me that the deal with Carolina's AI-problems would fit REALLY well for a certain person in the aforementioned AU. Being vague because I really don't feel like cutting this, but to someone familiar with both canons, it's, well, the person you're probably thinking of. Although I guess doing both might not be beyond the bounds of possibility... I'm probably not doing NaNo this year, but, hm.)
Typing this.

21 March 2013 06:12 pmIt's too much to actually expect any of my canons not to turn on me at some point, isn't it?
( Big smeg-off rant about recent Homestuck stuff - don't look here, Syn )
You know what else would be good? Being able to pick more than one mood. What am I supposed to put in that box down there if I'm infuriated AND depressed AND just about exhausted from feeling that way about nearly the whole world lately?
Also what the fuck is with stripping out all the capitals in tags? I DESPISE people who put the pronoun "I" in lowercase, can every fucking site STOP trying to force me into being one of them???
And cutting tags short without fucking warning you it's going to do that either. Stuck it on the end of the first rant instead because I wrote it for a reason and it's impossible to abbreviate.

2 March 2013 03:41 amSo, as far as the rest of my fairytales go, one of the ones I've been having trouble figuring out what to do with is Snow White. Because there's not really a whole lot there for me to grab onto, besides trying to start some incestuous caliginous feud between Karkat and whoever I cast as the Wicked Queen, right?
But I just started reading a DS9 fic in which Julian tells Earth fairytales to Garak to see what he thinks the morals are, a bit of cultural exchange, you know? Trying to get a bit more into the Cardassian mindset. And they start with Snow White. And this is Garak's response to Snow moving in with the dwarves:
EG: Now, was this just for the time being, to ensure she had a safe place to stay while she planned her return to the castle, her revenge on the queen and her retaking of the kingdom?
JB: Um... I don't think so.
EG: I don't call that a very good princess. She's quite content to leave her subjects at the mercy of an evil cannibal witch just so long as she's safe?
And now I'm going "hmmmm". And thinking about rebellion AUs again. And I think I may have an idea now what to do with this when I get to it...
Of course, I still have to figure out who the prince is, but he's a pretty minor character compared to the queen and the dwarves. So.
( Sticking my second realisation under an Act Five spoiler for Syn )
DS9 fic in question is this one, btw, if you're interested.

Should I just keep that series title? It really is starting to grow on me...
Title: To Place His Right Hand
Ships: Karkat<3John, Karkat<>Gamzee, John<3Feferi, Karkatc3<(Terezi/Vriska)
Summary: Karkat wants to save the worlds. He also wants an alien prince's heart. The horrorterrors seem to think these two goals are the same goal, but without his voice and with John's alien views on sexuality in the way, someone else might beat him to it.
Notes: Second fic for the Fairy Tale challenge - The Little Mermaid + orange.
Notes 2: Okay, look, it's Karkat as the Little Mermaid, if you're expecting to find no distressing content in here, then you're thinking of the wrong fairytale and also the wrong troll. This is your warning. Tread carefully.
Also, there are about ten minutes left of February in my timezone, I will make another pass through for typos before I repost it to AO3 (probably tomorrow), but for now, if there are any left, I apologise and I will fix them later.
( Ask them my questions, and get no answers because they're stutid fuckasses )

Some Superherostuck!
27 February 2013 03:23 amTitle: Why You Should Practise Safer Superheroing
Ships: Rose/Kanaya, of some sort or another
Summary: Trollsville is plagued by all sorts of unsavoury folk. It's a good thing that the Jade Sylph is there to take care of them... and a pity that her arch-nemesis finds her a little too distractible. Non-Sgrub superhero AU.
Notes: So I've been poking at this verse for some time, and then, well. This first part's for Femslash February now, but I do want to come back and write at least one proper epic in this verse, with everyone in it (or maybe everyone but Jake). This may or may not be my last thing for FF, depending on how the JadeFef comes out, or doesn't.
( The trouble with monologues is... )

Japanstuck
26 February 2013 04:03 amSo, yeah. One of the several things I thought of when I saw that "another time" prompt at HSO a couple of years ago was trolls in feudal Japan, and I thought why not? And then I decided to go with VanDiemenstuck instead, because it mattered to me a lot more... So here's some Japanese AraKan for Femslash February instead.
Title: Fragrant In The Morning
Ships: Aradia<3Kanaya
Summary: The first time around, Kanaya wasn't there to save her. Her dreams promise her a second chance. Feudal Japan AU.
Note: Contains content that may be distressing for some readers. Tread carefully.
( Her absence is an immutable fact )

RvB Progress
25 February 2013 02:57 amFinished Reconstruction earlier tonight. Turns out that's exactly where I got up to the first time, so everything from here on in is new territory, woot. I miss Tex, though. (I know she's in later seasons, but still.)
Sticking a few thoughts under a cut:
( I'm a motherfucking ghost )
So, I guess it's time to track down Relocated tomorrow.

So, I guess it's time to track down Relocated tomorrow.
This is probably the only time I'll ever write this pairing, but I saw that line in recent chapters of One Piece and... kind of just had to do it.
Title: Just Like The Girl
Ship: Nami/Tashigi
Summary: They say every girl wants a girl like her mother. For Femslash February (which is probably the only context in which I'll ever actually use the word, but anyway).
Spoilers: Inspired by a line in chapter 696.
( Fic under here )
There are a few more yuri fics on their way (as well the Johnkat one, which I'm sticking with the long version of after all, since the short one needs a complete rewrite itself - if I finish it later in the year, I may stick it in as another bonus track), but I'm getting this one out of the way while I struggle with titles and headers.

17 February 2013 03:40 pmSeriously thinking about ditching everything I've done for the Little Mermaid prompt and writing something all-new for it. And short.
Also, that "Vantas Fairybook" series title is starting to grow on me, and I'm not sure that's a good thing...
Won't be getting through everything I hoped to get up for Femslash February, but I'll get at least a couple of things, I think. So that should be okay.
( And a mini-rant )
